Living Your Passion

image Many people talk about living their passion. Presenter and alumnae member Ann Looby actually does it by helping orphaned children get an education. Looby is president of Funding African Children’s Education, which she co-founded in December 2005. FACE awards secondary school scholarships to needy students so they can become self-sufficient adults and contributing members of their communities. After initially awarding 11 scholarships in one country, in 2008 FACE has given 35 scholarships in five countries.

FACE is funded primarily by individual donors who sponsor children and follow their progress. Because Looby pays all administrative costs, 100 percent of donations go to scholarships. Tuition, room and board, books, and supplies cost about $500 a year for one girl. Over the past year, two Griffiths members have sponsored two young women and members have generously contributed toward the sponsorship of a third child.
