Member Shares Experience Assisting with Haiti Earthquake Relief

image A Special Hello to all the Members of the Griffiths Leadership Society.

I am sorry I could not make the Spring Conference as I was serving in Haiti with Project Medishare. I actually had two deployments in Haiti. One as the psychological support to the medical team and patients at the Project Medishare Hospital in Port-au-Prince. The second deployment was to the New Life Children’s Home where orphans from the earthquake were being sent for care.

Both deployments were full of new experiences for me and my team members. The devastation in Haiti was beyond anything that I had every been exposed to in my years of disaster response.

imageI will say that I have a tremendous respect for Project Medishare and their work in Haiti. I think if all the doctors, nurses, and support medical personnel in the United States were like these volunteers with Medishare, we would have NO health care issues in the this country. They worked as a team, along with the mental health providers, and were successful in helping thousands of patients entrusted to their care.

As far as my personal experience, I have to say, on one hand, I was emotionally, mentally and physical exhausted and on the other hand I was inspired, hopeful, and had a rewarding time being part of the teams. image

If you would like to help the people of Haiti PLEASE consider donating to Project Medishare. Their website is projectmedishare.org.
